MET OVAL U-18s WIN 2ND CONSECUTIVE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Met Oval U-18 Boys traveled down to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida looking to defend the Super Y League National Championship they won last season. Met Oval got off on the right foot winning their first game 5-0 against Rochester SC from Michigan. Jesus Patino opened the scoring in the third minute and that was followed by goals from Joseph Antonino, Alexis Santa, and two from Miguel Chung. In their second game Met Oval took on A3 United from Maryland and after a tough first half which ended scoreless, Alexis Santa scored on incredible volley from 30 yards to give Met Oval the lead. That was followed by goals from Joseph Antonino and Angel Serrano to seal the 3-0 win for Met Oval. Gianfranco Barone recorded his second consecutive shutout in goal. In their third game Met Oval took on a very good Ironbound side and after falling behind 1-0, Met Oval was able to tie the score through Jesus Patino. The tie was enough to allow Met Oval to finish on top of the group heading into the semifinals.

In the semifinals they faced a very tough TSF Academy team from New Jersey at IMG Stadium. Met Oval opened the scoring in the 8th minute when Alexis Santa broke through and chipped the ball over the TSF keeper. Met Oval had several chances to double their lead, but could not capitalize on their chances. They also unluckily had two goals disallowed by the referee. TSF took advantage, scoring two late goals to give them a 2-1 lead. Just when things looked over for Met Oval, forward Julian Correa got on the end of a cross and equalized for Met Oval in the final minute of stoppage time. The game moved into extra time where it remained tied 2-2 after 110 minutes and the teams went on to a penalty shootout. The teams remained tied through nine rounds of penalties and after Gianfranco Barone saved TSF's tenth shot, defender Dean Ramadan stepped up and converted for Met Oval giving the team a thrilling victory and sending them to Tuesday's championship game.

The final would be a rematch against rivals Ironbound from New Jersey. In a very physical affair, Met Oval opened the scoring in the 25th minute on a 20 yard volley from Dayo Adeosun. Met Oval was able to control possession throughout the game, creating several scoring chances. In the 75th minute Alexis Santa broke through on goal for Met Oval and gave the team a 2-0 lead with only 15 minutes to go. From there, Met Oval coasted to the finish winning their second consecutive Super Y League National Championship. Met Oval had four players selected to the finals starting 11 with Gianfranco Barone, Miguel Chung, Alexis Santa, and Jesus Patino all being selected. Gianfranco Barone also received the golden glove award as the weeks top goalkeeper giving up only three goals in five games. It was a perfect ending to a great week for Met Oval.

The Met Oval U13 team also traveled to Florida and made it to the Semifinals losing 1-0 in double overtime to the eventual champions, Chicago Inferno.
